53,586 spectators were at the opening match of the Men’s EHF EURO 2024 in Merkur Spiel-Arena, Düsseldorf on 10 January, setting a new world record for attendance at a handball match.

Danish legend Mikkel Hansen became the new all-time top scorer of the Men’s EHF EURO, counting 296 overall after netting 35 goals in 2024. Nikola Karabatic scored 16 goals to sit second, with 295.

In round 4 of the EHF Champions League Women on 6 October, Cristina Neagu became the all-time top scorer of the competition, passing Jovanka Radicevic. Neagu is also all-time top scorer of the EHF EURO.

By reaching the Women’s EHF EURO 2024, Türkiye qualified for their first major championship ever, in both genders. For Faroe Islands, the EHF EURO events in 2024 saw both their national teams’ major tournament debuts.

Following the expansion of the Men’s EHF EURO in 2020, the Women’s EHF EURO 2024 was the first edition with 24 teams. This year marked 30 years since the EHF EURO began in 1994.

Katrine Lunde broke her own record once again and became the only player in history of handball to win seven European titles.
