History-makers Valur lift EHF European Cup Women trophy
Valur became the first Icelandic women's team to win a European club competition when they beat Spain’s Conservas Orbe Zendal Bm Porrino in a thrilling two-leg final of the EHF European Cup Women 2024/25.
In the first leg Valur held a four-goal lead at the break, but Porrino fought their way back into the game, drawing level with seven minutes to go and taking the lead in the 58th minute. Valur responded, retaking the advantage, but Porrino’s Micaela Casasola netted in the last second to secure a 29:29 draw.
The second leg was another rollercoaster with Valur pegging back Porrino’s initial lead and then stopping their visitors from scoring for a full 14 minutes of the first half. The Icelandic side led by six goals with 16 minutes remaining, but Porrino again responded, and Valur clung on to victory by a single goal, 25:24.
Valur ended their campaign unbeaten at home, and with a total of eight wins through the competition.
